This beautiful and sensitive composition was written to celebrate the beginning of UNITED SOUND, an organization whose purpose is to put instruments into the hands of special needs students. The beginning section features optional solo opportunities for flute, alto sax and trumpet. A Guide Along The Pathway
This intense and emotional work was commissioned by the Indiana Music Educators Association and was premiered at the 2011 IMEA Convention with the composer conducting. Written as a gift to longtime friend of music education, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, the piece is basically lyrical in nature with beautiful lines and colors. A brief faster section, in the words of the composer, “describes that uncomfortable time when we are desperately trying to find ourselves.” The piece ends on a solemn yet reaffirming note, reminding us of the importance of guides and mentors along life’s pathway. Along an English Countryside
Composed in 12/8 and entirely in one energetic tempo, this masterful work is a musical tribute to the late Sir Malcolm Arnold, one of the most notable English composers of our time. As Tears Fall on Dawn’s New Light
Even though the ranges and rhythms are quite modest in this beautiful lyric piece for young bands, there is a wealth of musicality to be learned and enjoyed. Referring to the ongoing quest in which we all embark when trying to find our place in the world, Richard Saucedo’s At the End of the Rainbow takes us on a journey of varied moods and styles. After the stark and dramatic opening unison statements, this imaginative works features a lighthearted and spirited 12/8 section with plenty of rhythmic vitality. This is beautifully paired with a lyric middle section that showcases a solo for horn and flowing melodic lines that build to an emotional climax. Brick Street Encounter
Displaying a wide variety of colors and textures, here is an exceptional work for young bands. Cambrian Explosion
The Cambrian period of our planet’s geological history (roughly 500 million years ago) saw an explosion of plant and animal diversity evolving into many of the complex life forms familiar today. Richard Saucedo gives us an “explosion” of musical forms and surprises in this fast-paced and powerful work for mature bands. A recurring mallet and timpani pattern provides unity amidst a diverse musical palette that ranges from jazzy to celebratory.
