¡El Tiburón!
Cast in G minor, this compelling original work contains all the anticipated components with a musical depiction of circling the prey and the strike. The effects are complete with the use of vivid dynamic shifts and a solid percussion contribution. All musical components are easily attainable by beginning students. Dating back to more than 420 million years ago, these continuously moving “soulless eating machines” have been the subject extensive study and graphic horror. “¡El Tiburón!” by Ralph Ford is musically menacing yet audience pleasing! Areopogus
Areopogus [ar-ee-op-uh-guhs], “the hill of Ares (Mars),” was a rocky hill located northwest of the Acropolis in ancient Athens, Greece. This original Ralph Ford work, created with eerie modal melodic content, was inspired by this alien hill. The work is composed in G minor; your ensemble will sound mature beyond their years. A dynamic contemporary original composition for your beginners!SKU: AL35337 -

Beyond Whistler
The closing movement from the Sea to Sky Suite is “Beyond Whistler.” After whisking down this highest and most treacherous of slopes, the listener stops to view what lies beyond. This movement is finalized with a long, slow build to the climax, again using the motif that is present throughout the entire suite. It is to be performed with a great sense of wonder and excitement, with a gradual build to the end. A grand conclusion to this dynamic suite. Also consider programming the first three movements: “March: The Lion’s Gate” (26772), “Shannon Falls” (26773) and “Stawamus Chief” (29630). (7:10)SKU: AL29631 -

Con Brio
Scored in traditional, or standard march form, this original work has all the opportunities for varied performance that are found in Sousa’s revered marches. The trio section features a melody from “The Maple Leaf Forever” and is quite appropriate since the march was commissioned and premiered by the Con Brio Festivals in British Columbia. This is a sparkling new original march in the style that is at the very root of the concert band art form. A brisk energizing choice! (3:00)SKU: AL38372 -

Cotton Ferry Expedition
Depicting four contrasting river scenes during the industrialization period of our history, Ralph Ford’s Cotton Ferry Expedition begins with “River in the Morn” prior to the ferry’s construction and continues with “At the Landing” in a fun ragtime style. All Aboard allows the listener to envision the passengers boarding and finally the beautiful flowing Ferry Voyage provides a distinct conclusion. A charismatic new work sure to please!SKU: AL26748 -

Coventry Carol
The initial treatment of this cherished melody is crystalline in nature with transparent beauty. Ralph Ford’s version transcends to a lush warm scoring that relaxes to the end providing a reflective and most musical interpretation. A beautiful way to usher in the holiday season musically. Creepers in the Castle
What would a creepy piece be if not in a minor key? Managed through the use of accidentals, this mysterious-sounding piece is actually in B-flat minor through a concert B-flat major key with the addition of accidentals. Great time to reinforce the concept that accidentals last a whole measure. With careful attention to dynamics and articulations, you’re certain to have a spooktacular performance! Dancin’ on the Bayou
It’s real fun, but real music as well. Your percussion section will crave the focus on special effects requiring a washtub, washboards, and jugs (a number of the percussion parts are optional but certainly enhance the entertaining effect). Special guests can also join in the fun! This work provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce cut time and perform authentic Cajun or Zydeco styles. (1:16)SKU: ALBDM03016
