Academic Festival Overture
Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture was composed in the summer of 1880 for the conferment of his own honorary doctorate of philosophy degree by Breslau University. The piece is based on a number of student songs that would have been familiar to those in attendance at the time. The themes derived from four of those songs have been used in this arrangement for young band and are presented in the same order in which they appear in Brahms’s original. Careful attention to the written dynamics and articulations will aid your students in creating an authentic performance of this transcription. A perfect choice for young bands at festival.SKU: AL20709 -

An Angel Fantasie
Here is an outstanding opportunity to both ring in the season and help your students to develop the important skills of rhythmic independence and stylized articulations. An Angel Fantasie is a creative treatment of the well-known Christmas carol Angels We Have Heard On High. This arrangement forgoes the usual melody/harmony scoring in favor of introducing the young musician to simple contrapuntal writing. The theme is treated lyrically for the first half of the arrangement before introducing lighter articulations “alla baroque.”SKU: AL23296 -

Canarios Fantasia
Driving syncopation and woodwind flourishes will transform your next concert into a festival! A rhythmic showpiece for your whole band, Doug Akey’s Canarios Fantasia makes tremendous use of the trumpet and percussion sections which supply the driving pulses throughout the work. A flowing melody provides a brief contrast about two-thirds in, only to be overtaken by the exciting “Vivo” section that drives Canarios Fantasia home. A spectacular finish to any concert!

Cheyenne Cañon

Riders on the Wind
Riders on the Wind is a musical flight that features lyrical melodies soaring over a rhythmic undercurrent. Written in a single tempo throughout, the piece is a study in continuous motion right up until the final note. The programmatic effect in the piece will be enhanced by accentuating the stylistic contrast between the sostenuto melodies and the more rhythmic accompaniments.SKU: AL22285
