The Last Centaur
Composed in the style of a grand and descriptive film score, The Last Centaur is a musical depiction of a centaur who is separated from his family by war, the ensuing adventures, and ultimate reunion with his family and friends. The music begins with a stately, lyrical theme in the horns followed by solo oboe. This main theme is then woven throughout the work as it develops and grows with intensity. Sweeping woodwind lines and majestic brass fanfares capture the excitement of the drama and ultimate joyous resolution. Powerful and evocative writing! Dur: 6:00(Recorded by the West Genesee (NY) High School Wind Ensemble – Andrew Perry, conductor)

Theme and Fugue from The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra
Originally composed to introduce the various instruments of the orchestra, Britten’s “Young Person’s Guide” follows a set of variations based on a melody by Henry Purcell. In this setting for wind band, Richard Saucedo presents the opening theme followed by Britten’s exuberant fugue which culminates in a glorious finale and recap of Purcell’s melody. A stunning work for mature ensembles. Dur. 4:40SKU: HL48024363 -

Undercurrents
Undercurrents provides an electrifying, virtuosic showcase for the whole ensemble – featuring a series of solos, duets and trios, as well as highlighting the various chamber sections within the band. The music was inspired by watching schools of fish and flocks of birds perpetually moving with the ocean currents and air currents. Every once in a while a single solo shape will appear – or two or three – they dance apart for a moment and then are drawn back into the ensemble. Commissioned by the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, Victoria, BC, this is a powerful tour-de-force from beginning to end. Dur: c. 6:30SKU: HL04004646 -

Valley Montage and Celebration
This work for advanced band was commissioned by the Tennessee Valley Winds to celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary. The piece begins quietly with clarinet solo, then quickly moves to a celebratory section in 12/8 meter. The main melody is stated in many different voices as it steadily builds to a moment of controlled frenzy. A brief lyrical section features an expressive style and also a moment of glory for the entire woodwind choir. The work concludes with a return to the vibrant and enthusiastic flavor of the opening. Powerful and impressive writing for mature groups! Dur: 5:10SKU: HL04004282 -

Walking into History (The Clinton 12)
