Westport Overture
Westport Overture is the ideal piece for the maturing high school band. Its strong opening polychordal statement sets the foundation for an exciting overture that sounds much more difficult than it is. Rich, complex harmonies lend it a sophisticated tone, while its rhythmic simplicity puts it well within the range of most young high school bands. The middle section is sensitive and lyrical, yet has no extreme range considerations or overly exposed parts. The return of the opening fanfare allows for a strong finish, making Westport Overture a natural contest or concert selection for the developing band.SKU: AL11227 -

Whisper to Their Souls (based on “Greensleeves”)
Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrases until the work reaches an emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. While this is certainly effective as a holiday offering, it can be performed as a memorable tone poem any time of the year. Dur: 4:10SKU: HL04002667 -

Zanzibar Boat Song
Percy Grainger composed this work for “six hands at one piano” in 1902, and subsequently he began a version for percussion ensemble that was never completed. Using sketches of this incomplete arrangement, Preston Hazzard has created a unique setting for concert band. The transparent and delicate lilting nature of the original work comes through in this appealing arrangement for winds and percussion. Dur: 4:00SKU: HL04003922
