A Westward Expedition is a musical tribute to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Louis and Clark expedition and its mission to explore the uncharted West. After a powerful introduction, the main theme is introduced in a spirited Allegro section, portraying the excitement as the Corps of Discovery set out on its westward journey. This is followed by the lush and beautiful Andante section, which depicts the thousands of miles of spectacular mountains, rivers and wildlife encountered along the route. The anticipation and thrill of reaching the Pacific Ocean (upon arriving at what is now the state of Oregon) is brought to life with a recapitulation of the opening theme, bringing the historic journey to an exciting end.

Take two Spanish dances and one noted composer and what do you have? Sketches of Spain from the pen of Dave Black. This original work captures the essence of old Spain in two movements inspired by well-known Spanish dances, the tango and paso doble, that shows off the talents of your band. This barn-burner is a great way to end your concert with a musical “olé!”

Inspired by the composer’s travels in Russia, this original two-movement work is in the style of the Russian folk song. The first movement is a mournfully beautiful lyric work written in a lush, contemporary setting. The second movement brings to life the spirit of the peasants as the dance in village festivities to celebrate the end of harvest. This would make a great multicultural addition to your next concert.
