Tsunami
In 1,500 B.C. the volcano of Santorin, an island to the north of Crete, exploded with unprecedented violence sending millions of tons of volcanic ash into the atmosphere, producing intense atmospheric shock waves, and creating disastrous tsunamis. It is now believed that this caused the extinction of the great Minoan civilization. This piece was written in the spring of 2004, prior to the more recent tsunami in December of that year, and is dedicated to the memory of all who were affected by that disaster.SKU: AL24670 -

Two Russian Sketches
Inspired by the composer’s travels in Russia, this original two-movement work is in the style of the Russian folk song. The first movement is a mournfully beautiful lyric work written in a lush, contemporary setting. The second movement brings to life the spirit of the peasants as the dance in village festivities to celebrate the end of harvest. This would make a great multicultural addition to your next concert.SKU: AL23324 -

Undecim
“Undecim” is Latin for “eleven,” referring both to the “eleventh hour” (the last opportunity to get something done) and the opening metric feel of the piece (7/8 + 2/4 = 11 eighth notes). This high-energy opener is the perfect way to begin your next concert! (3:15)SKU: AL44208 -

Villages
Calling for the band to be divided into four separate ensembles (and spread apart if space permits), Villages explores a wide range of harmonic and rhythmic interplay between each of these musical “villages.” The opening creates a dense canopy of sound, out of which the unique identity of each group variously emerges then melts back into the texture. As the fast pace continues, melodic fragments are bounced from group to group with interjections from the percussion. A slower lyric section provides contrast before the frantic pace returns leading to the exciting conclusion. Innovative in its conception, this stunning work will expose your students and audience to dramatically new sounds for band! Dur: 8:15SKU: HL04003778 -
