Classic March Duo
Two popular marches from the classical repertoire are paired together in this wonderful new arrangement. Jeremiah Clarke’s (1674–1707) “Trumpet Voluntary” was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert’s (1797–1828) “Marche Militaire” was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. This effective arrangement gives the young band student an opportunity to perform two of the most famous marches of all time. (Correlated to Accent on Achievement, Book 1, Page 30)SKU: AL33813 -

Cold Brook March
Cold Brook March is perfect for your band’s first Spring Concert. The ranges are comfortable for all instruments and the second clarinets never cross the break. Fun, syncopated rhythms provide a great deal of interest throughout. Short percussion solos introduce both the first strain and the second strain which is in the contrasting relative minor key. The break up strain pits the woodwinds against the brass with the percussion section holding it all together. (Correlates to Accent on Achievement, Book 1, Page 32)SKU: AL33811 -

Contredanse
Today we have ‘line dancing,’ which in reality is not too different from the ‘contredanse’ or country dance of the late 18th century. The music accompanying this French dance form was written in eight-measure phrases repeated again and again. Composer Larry Clark gives us the flavor of another era with more contemporary harmonic structuring. Look very seriously at this sophisticated yet audience-friendly new work for your concert band or wind ensemble. (2:24)

Coventry Carol
The initial treatment of this cherished melody is crystalline in nature with transparent beauty. Ralph Ford’s version transcends to a lush warm scoring that relaxes to the end providing a reflective and most musical interpretation. A beautiful way to usher in the holiday season musically. Creepy Crawlies
Well, you’ve probably heard of tributes to almost everything, but how about a tribute to bugs? Yes, with tongue very much in cheek, Michael Story has penned this original novelty to bring more than just a snicker from your audiences. Hear the insect as it approaches (your trumpet section playing on mouthpieces) and a resounding “slap” as the culprit is sent to greener pastures. Add some visuals from the band as the insect “circles,” and you have yourself a guaranteed successful concert moment. For you environmentalists: No harmful pesticides are included. (Oh my, that’s “OFF”-ful!) (1:45)SKU: ALBD9951 -

Cruise Control
A cool swing groove on the ride cymbal opens this jazzy piece for first year band students. With the low brass and woodwinds providing a driving walking bass line, the trumpets, saxes, and upper woodwinds trade the melody effectively throughout the piece. Solid scoring and a strong rhythmic foundation allow the band to really lay back and put themselves into the “cruise control” setting! This is a great learning tool introducing elements of the swing and jazz genres to the young band.SKU: AL33838 -

Dance of the Reed Flutes
Tchaikovsky’s delightful ballet The Nutcracker is the source of this ageless favorite. Although it is scored ‘down to the very basics,’ the flavor and charm of the original is more than evident. Marked with comfortable ranges and rhythms (making it easy to rehearse), and arranged for a full and complete sound, this work will deliver real pleasure to your holiday concert audience. Dancin’ on the Bayou
It’s real fun, but real music as well. Your percussion section will crave the focus on special effects requiring a washtub, washboards, and jugs (a number of the percussion parts are optional but certainly enhance the entertaining effect). Special guests can also join in the fun! This work provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce cut time and perform authentic Cajun or Zydeco styles. (1:16)SKU: ALBDM03016 -

Daydreaming
“Daydreaming” is a short, lighthearted tone poem with a very simple lyrical quality reflecting a behavior most of us exhibit from time to time. The melodic theme occurred to the composer as he was sitting in his studio looking out the window and doing what the title suggests he was doing. (2:15)“A lighthearted piece ideal for first-year concert programming!”
