There Will Come Soft Rains
Most middle-school students read the moving story, There Will Come Soft Rains. The voiceclock in the story is represented by the ‘ticktock’ of the claves, and the music is lyrical and pastoral in nature. This work expresses that we are just a part of the cycle of life and the beauty of all that surrounds us will go on after we are gone.SKU: AL26806 -

Tu Ungane
Tu Ungane (Swahili, pronounced TOO une-GAH-nay) means “Let’s join together” and refers both to musicians coming together to play as well as African and Western styles merging musically. Western musical styles such as Gospel, Blues, and Jazz owe much to African influence. African music has been influenced by the West as well, fusing British military and brass band music, along with the hymns and songs of missionaries from Europe and the United States, with tribal folk elements. Tu Ungane explores this musical cross-pollination incorporating the Tanzanian folk song “Asali Ya Nyuki” (“Honey of Bees”) and original musical material in the style of the British-African fusion.SKU: AL33823 -

Two Chinese Folk Songs
The two folk songs in this arrangement are contrasting in style but they both share the characteristic pentatonic scale that is a staple of Chinese and other Asian cultures. Jasmine Flower musically portrays the lovely scent and beauty of the flower that is often worn in the hair of Asian women. Feng Yang Ge is a much livelier song that combines the pentatonic scale with syncopated rhythms. “Feng Yang” is a region in the Anhui Province of China and “Ge” means song. Correlates with Book 1.
